I’ve had the Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS for about 2 weeks now. I have to say that I am still very impressed with the pictures. The bokeh is a lot better then my other zooms. Keep in mind this is my first “L” lens. Going from the consumer lenses to “L” lenses is amazing. I now understand why people keep saying to just get the “L” lenses if you are going to stay in photography. The pictures are amazing. The construction of the lens is unbelievable. I love how the zoom is internal. I did not think about it much until I started comparing it to my walk around lens – the 28-135 IS – but not having the lens push and pull really does help.
Now I debated over getting the 70-200 f4L IS because everyone said the f2.8L IS was too heavy to carry around. Yes the weight is an issue. It is a very heavy lens. Compared to my other lenses it feels like a rock. But I still prefer having the f2.8 advantage over the f4 because I like to have flexibility and I am getting into more sunset and night shots. Despite the weight I have to say I am still really pleased with this lens. Of course it has meant that I have now tasted the flavor of “L” lenses and will now be addicted to using them.
